MRM Equity was founded by Christopher Leahy and Maria Manalo, who combined their diverse backgrounds in construction, real estate and technology to create a successful investment property firm. Christopher, a Brooklyn native, began his career in the multi-family mixed-use real estate sector in Manhattan and Brooklyn with his grandfather in the 1970s. He has also gained valuable experience as a General Contractor in New York City since 1980. Maria, originally from the Chicago suburbs, moved to New Jersey in the 1990s and developed a successful career as a software release manager in the telecommunications industry.
The couple met in 1998, and by 2000, they had acquired a portion of Chris’s grandfather's real estate business. Over the years, they expanded their holdings, ultimately purchasing the entire business. A significant milestone occurred in 2014 when they sold part of their New York City properties to invest in real estate in Maine, Massachusetts, New Jersey, and New Hampshire.
Since their initial acquisition in New England, MRM Equity's portfolio has grown to include investment properties in Portland and Bangor, ME; Lebanon, NH; Canton, MA; and Brooklyn, NY. The company has also completed the redevelopment of two marinas and a restaurant in West Milford, NJ on Greenwood Lake. Currently, MRM is working with Chris’s brother, Timothy Leahy, and his wife, Shaliza Leahy, on transforming a mixed-use office building in Portland into live/work lofts and apartments.
Throughout their nearly 25 years of ownership experience, MRM Equity has learned that tenant satisfaction is essential to success. As dedicated property owners, Chris and Maria prioritize maintaining their properties and addressing the needs of their tenants.
